As a technology, silicon based PV solar panels are readily available but only have a 20% energy efficiency rate. PV technology is cost effective in the deployment of Sactec Solar’s low to medium power centers with a 10KW/hr requirement. With requirements of 20KW/hr or more, the Sactec Solar CPV technology systems are deployed. A CPV technology system converts sunlight energy to electrical energy in a similar method to PV technology but utilizes high efficiency optical cells rather than “macro” silicon cells. As a result, the system can provide modules with over 40% higher efficiency levels than conventional PV technology. Additionally, CPV technology systems do not degrade at higher temperatures as do silicon based PV systems which can lose 20% or more efficiency at higher temperatures. CPV technology also tracks the sun throughout the day allowing for greater energy production.
